Carluke Camera Club Last Friday was this season’s second full meeting at which Libby Smith outlined the forthcoming programme of Monday night Members Workshops and also treated members to a fine illustrated and inspiring taster of advanced image editing which will form part of the workshops programme. Because of the September holiday, there will be no meetings this coming Friday or Monday. The next club meeting is on Friday, September 29, when Simon Allen from Dumfries will judge the club’s annual print competition. As always, that meeting will be held in St. Andrew’s Church Hall at 7.30pm and new members and visitors will be most welcome. Members Workshops commence on Monday, October 2, with ‘An Introduction to Camera Basics’. As 2017 is the 40th anniversary of the club’s foundation, an exhibition is planned to display some of the best work of its members during the club’s lifetime. All former members are kindly encouraged to contact Libby Smith or Hunter Kennedy to discuss possible inclusion of their work in the exhibition and other celebratory events.Details of all of the club’s activities, as well as contact details, are on its website at www. carluke-cc.org. Trekkers have their next outing planned for Saturday, October 14, when they will venture to Cloich Lopp and Barony Castle Eddleston (near Peebles). This will be a flat circular walk of eight miles. Go along to St John’s church hall every Wednesday evening at 7.30pm and get in style and step with Nell Broadbridge – no partner needed. Soup and Sweet On Saturday, September 23, the popular soup and sweet will be held in the United Reform Church and the ladies are looking forward to welcoming you to the new session. Soup will be served from 11.30am until 1.30pm. Thursday Service The Thursday morning service at St John’s Church was led last week by Joe Bradley again a strong message was given and favourite hymns enjoyed to complete the morning the “Kettle’s On” was a busy venue after the service. Why not come along and spend this time with praise and friendship at 10.30am? You will be made most welcome. Day Centre Winners for the games afternoon were as follows: whist - B Wright, M Struthers, B Muir; dominoes - T Paisley, F Hill, T Scobie. Members are reminded that the Lifestyles Centre will be closed on Monday, September 25, and Friday, September 29. No day centre activities on these dates. On Thursday, September 28, the day centre are having a musical and buffet afternoon at 12.30pm in the Lifestyles Centre where entertainment will include The Jolly Beggars, John Findlay on the organ and a buffet tea. St Athanasius Assembly will take place on Thursday, September 21, at 7pm in the hall. Please put this date in your diaries It would be great if every family was represented at this important meeting.
