United suffered another heavy defeat as they remain rock bottom of the Central District Second.

Now the Newmains manager is looking forward to the distraction of the Scottish Junior Cup tie against Annbank United this Saturday. He said:“For the first 25 minutes we were playing well and creating chances which we just couldn’t finish.

“But we conceded one goal and then there was a spell of seven or eight minutes afterwards when the floodgates opened and it was infuriating.

“The minute we go one goal down the heads just drop and they start playing in their shells.

“I want the players to be brave and try and create something but it comes down to a lack of experience. I firmly believe we have a squad who have good technical ability but it’s all coming down to a lack of confidence.

“We need to build some confidence and I honestly think we might need to bring in a sports psychologist to help the guys get a bit of self-belief.

“This weekend we have the chance to go out there with no pressure on us and just try to give a good account of our ourselves in the Scottish Cup but it won’t be easy.”
