A Jonathan Boal own goal gave Wishaw the lead and they added to it with a double from Vinnie McGuire, KB Grant and a goal each from Dan and Dean Kindlan.

Despite fighting back with goals from Damon Welsh, Ali Morgan and Graeme Crawford, Wishaw always looked value for the three points.

But the Wishaw manager admits that he will always be looking to bolster his squad as they prepare a title tilt.

He said: “It was a good performance from us and whenever you score six goals away from home you’re always going to be happy.

“We’ve got lots of goalscorers as well which is pleasing.

“We had Sandy and Ryan away on holiday as well so we had to get someone in goals at the last minute.

“We played well but we need to tighten it up at the back.

“That will come with the more we gel together and we’ll keep changing the system.

“We tried a 4-4-2 before moving to a 3-5-2 on Saturday so we’ll have to see what’s best for us.”

The first of nine goals was scored after McGuire’s driven cross was knocked in by Boal but United equalised through a Welsh penalty.

Kindlan raced on to McGuire’s header to regain the Wishaw lead before they romped ahead to a 4-1 lead at half- time thanks to Grant’s free-kick and a superb header from McGuire.

Morgan pulled one back for the hosts with a header of his own but it was all over when McGuire had an easy finish in the box for the fifth.

Grant sent Kindlan through on goal and the substitute netted with ease to make it a super six.

Thorniewood were throwing everything they had at Wishaw and pulled one back through Crawford.

Next up for Wishaw Juniors is a home tie against St Roch’s this Saturday at Beltane Park.

Kick-off is at 3pm and tickets cost £5 for adults, £2.50 for concessions and OAPs while under 16s go free.
