St Brigid’s Primary School have been praised in a new report from Education Scotland.

The Newmains school were given the thumbs up in the HM Inspectorate of Education report which was published last week.

Strong leadership, a good teaching environment and a great school community were highlights for the pupils.

Due to the praise received in the report, HMI confirmed to teachers they will not be returning for a follow- up as they inform parents or guardians about the school’s hard work.

Catherine Corr, headteacher at St Brigid’s Primary, was thrilled to see the school’s hard work pay off.

She said: “I am delighted with our recent positive HMI report. It acknowledges the caring, rich and stimulating learning environment that we have created for our children.

“I would like to thank staff, pupils and parents for all their hard work and commitment.

“Working together, they have shaped a special learning community that allows our young people to reach their full potential.”

The report also outlined areas to improve but praised the school for their attainment in literacy and numeracy.

The re p o r t states: “The following areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the headteacher and a representative from North Lanarkshire Council:

Continue to develop a strategic approach to planning the curriculum.

Further improve the consistency of teaching and better plan tasks to meet the needs of all children.

Review the remits of the leadership team to support teachers to be more outward looking and focused on improving learning and teaching.

“The key strengths of the school are the leadership of the headteacher, teachers create a stimulating and rich learning environment, the caring and nurturing ethos based on Gospel values which provides a calm environment in which children behave and learn well and attainment in literacy and numeracy.

“We are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and so we will make no more visits in connection with this inspection.”
