Camera Club Due to the September bank holiday, there was no meeting of the club on Friday of last week.

The next meeting will take place in St Andrews Church hall this Friday, at 7.30pm, when Simon Allen from Dumfries will judge the club’s annual print competition and new members, visitors and guests will be most welcome.

Members’ workshops will commence on Monday, October 2, with an introduction to camera basic. Please contact Libby if you wish to participate in this workshop, giving details of your camera.

The club is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and a few things are being planned to mark this auspicious occasion, including an exhibition of work from not only every current member of the club, but also the work of past members from the last four decades.

If enough images are submitted by members and former members, it is hoped that a selection of the work will form a digital presentation, a print exhibition and a book.

All former members are encouraged to contact Libby Smith or Hunter Kennedy to discuss the possible inclusion of their work in the exhibition and other celebratory events.

Details of all of the club’s activities, as well as contact details, can be found on its website at www.carluke-cc.org. Week-day service The week-day service held at St John’s Church on Thursday of last week was led by Bill Love, the preacher from Law Parish Church and once again those attending the service enjoyed his interesting morning address, before moving on to the Kettle’s On event held as usual in the church hall for a weekly chat over coffee and cake with a pleasant morning enjoyed by everyone.

All are invited to come along to this 10.30am service which is held in the church each week. Day centre Members are reminded of the lovely afternoon which has been planned in the Lifestyles Centre on Thursday of this week when the popular Jolly Beggars group will be entertaining the crowds.

Attractions on the day will also include dancing to the music of John Findlay with members and friends looking forward to a buffet afternoon tea which will be served in the hall afterwards. Please note that there will be no Friday afternoon dancing session this week.

The winners of this week’s games afternoon were as follows: whist - R Prentice, J Murdoch and B Muir, and A Nelson; and dominoes - F Hill, J McLaren and J Kincaid.

Members are reminded that the forthcoming holiday to Fort William will now take place in November and not October as previously advertised.

For more information on any of the centre’s events, contact Mary on 01555 772214. Soup and sweet lunch The first soup and sweet event of the new session took place in the United Reform Church hall on Saturday of last week.

A host of local residents and friends of the church came along to enjoy the day’s menu which was filled with delicious soups and a wide selection of sweets, followed with tea and coffee and home made tablet.

The sum of £150 was raised for the church funds from the event and sincere thanks go to all who came along to give their support.

The next monthly lunch will take place at the church on Saturday, October 21, and all are welcome to come along to the United Reform Church hall which will be open on the day from 11.30am until 1.30pm.
