So close for Reece but Terry wins big
Boxers in fight action
Springhill ABC fighter Reece Lynch just missed out on a medal in the European Junior Championships.
The youngster was defeated by Georgian scrapper Chikovan Bakur in the quarter-final by a split decision.
R e e c e ha d b e at e n Englishman George Bance and a German fighter in Albena, Bulgaria.
The 16- year- old was competing in the 57kg category and head coach Frank Delaney believes the youngster was hard done by.
He said: “It shows Reece can handle going up against the best European fighters there is but he’s been unlucky again.
“A few people who were there have said that he should have won the fight against the Georgian but the decision didn’t go his way. There’s not many times you would go to a tournament like that, box three times and not get a medal.”
Each round was evenly contested as the first one then the other would gain the upper hand with Reece trying to box at long range and Bakur rushing forward to close the gap.
The judges had to choose between perhaps the better quality of Reece’s work as opposed to the higher volume of the Georgian.
Unfortunately Reece lost out but Frank said: “He faced two tough opponents but looked extremely comfortable against the English boy.
“Sometimes you don’t get the breaks but Reece works really hard.”
Terry Sample also boxed for the club down in Manchester, against Jimmy Egan from ABC Manchester.
The Shotts ace picked up a great points victory.
