Castlehill Bowling Club will hold their closing game of the season in the club this Saturday at 2pm with the 2017 presentati­on of prizes taking place from noon. Highland dancing The new country dancing sessions have resumed in Kirkton Church hall on Tuesday at the usual time. A warm welcome invitation is given to all to come along to try this popular class, where instructio­n can be provided if it is required. Classes cost £4 per session. For more informatio­n, contact 01555 772078. Charity coffee morning will be held in the clubhouse of Carluke Golf Club this Friday. Tickets cost £5, and the event opens from 10am to noon, all welcome. Come along and bring a friend and enjoy tea, coffee and home baking. Week-day service The week-day service held in St John’s Church on Thursday of last week was led by Alan Grant, who gave an interestin­g talk on the sad topic of falling out. However, those who attended the service were soon laughing at his bright and optimistic message. This was followed by a chat for regulars over a cup of tea or coffee at the Kettle’s On event held in the church hall. All are welcome to the short 10.30am service held each week. Harvest thanksgivi­ng service took place at St John’s Church on Sunday with all enjoying the popular hymns of the autumn season including All Things Bright and Beautiful, where the church was decorated with the gifts and fruit of the season. Lupus charity morning will be held in St John’s Church hall this Saturday, open from 10.30am until 11.30am. There will be home baking, filled rolls and tea and coffee on sale and all are welcome to come along to support this worthwhile cause. Open prayer day will take place in Kirkton Church this Saturday, from 10am to 1pm. This is open to all to drop in to pray for local churches as well as national and internatio­nal issues. There will also be a quiet room available for silent prayer. Jam and Ham Festival The threeday event was well attended by all members of the community who enjoyed seeing the extra parade from this year’s Gala Queen, who opened the festival in the town on Saturday. Ramsays had set up a number of stalls in the town and everyone tried the large selection of items on offer over the course of the weekend. Trekkers The group will leave the town on their next trek on Saturday, October 14, at 9am for an eight-mile walk to Cloich Loop and Barony Castle, Eddleston (near Peebles). Anyone wishing to go on this outing, should contact Rae by emailing him on raewarnock@aol.com. New trekkers always welcome. Guild registrati­on The new session of St John’s Guild will take place at the church on Wednesday, October 11, at 1.30pm. Thanksgivi­ng service will be held in St Athanasius Parish Church on Sunday, October 22 at 7pm, in aid of Street Level, all welcome. The group will hold their AGM in their Stewart Street hall on Tuesday, October 24 at 7pm, and parents and friends would be welcomed. Trefoil Guild resumed their monthly meetings for the autumn season last week and welcomed a representa­tive from the CHAS charity. The group were thanked by president Ruby Mitchell. Their next meeting takes place in the Guide Hall next Tuesday, October 9 at 7.30pm, and all are welcome. Coming along to enjoy the company of friends, speaker and tea, coffee and biscuits.
