Family’s heartache as Labrador Harry crushed in hit-and-run

A speeding driver dragged a pet pooch to its death.

Chocolate Labrador Harry was crushed under the wheels of a silver hatchback and pulled along the road for 20 yards on Sunday night. Heartbroke­n owner Jane Oliver rushed to the vet but Harry’s injuries were so severe he had to be destroyed. The 52-year-old, from Kirknethan in Netherton, said: “I’m devastated. It’s like losing a member of the family. “I can’t believe the person who hit him just drove off. “The vet told my husband John that the car must have been going at high speed to inflict the injuries it did.” John had been out walking with Harry at around 9.15pm when the threeyear- old broke free and ran onto the road. Jane said: “Harry just managed to get away from John who tried to shout at the driver to stop but it was too late.e.

“The car strucktruc­k him and took him about 20 yardss down the road and then just drove away. ay.

“The car mustust be badly damaged but the person didn’t dn’t even get out.

“What if it had been a child who had ran onto the street? treet? Would the driver have just spedd off then too?”

Jane, 52, wasas given Harry as a 50th birthdayy present and the loss of her beloved loved dog has left her and her daughters, Emma and Cheryl, andnd grandchild­ren devastated.
