Mystery man is grave hero

- Stratton Williams

A ki n d - h e a r t e d stranger helped a Wishaw family erect a permanent memorial to their dead son.

The Greechan family were devastated when John was delivered stillborn at Wishaw General Hospital last June.

In a bid to personalise her son’s grave, mum Danni posted a request on Facebook for people to provide her with wooden building blocks to spell out his name.

She said: “We wanted something to mark the spot so my two girls could see exactly where their baby brother was buried.

“I then got a message saying that a complete stranger had agreed to pay for a proper headstone for our baby’s grave.

“I couldn’t believe it. A man we didn’t even know spent all this money to make things better for us.

“He also arranged for a picture of John to be incorporated into the headstone.”

The mum-of-two added: “It proves that there are good- hearted, generous people out there. We are totally overwhelmed by his actions.”

The only thing Danni knows about the benefactor is that his name is Ernie.

She said the stranger’s gesture has helped ease the family’s pain of losing their son.

“It ’ s the best early Christmas present anyone could have given us,” she added. He has to be one of the best guys God ever put on earth.”

The family have been told that the headstone will be in place within the next four to six weeks.
