We want to reach even more people

-

The chairman of Wishaw and District Talking Newspaper has made a plea for more people to take up the service.

During the 18 years of the group’s existence, the Talking Newspaper discs reached 120 people across Motherwell and Wishaw.

However, now the numbers have dropped down to 60 and Russell Clark is hoping to get more people involved with the free service.

He said:“Our biggest worry is that we’re not getting the message across to the right people about how our service is available.

“We need people to be letting others know that this service is here for them and we are looking to get everyone involved - from the local press to the NHS.

“There are plenty of people out there who are blind who might benefit from this but an advert in the paper or leaflets won’t do anything.

“We need friends and family to get in touch on behalf of someone and help us continue to produce this service.

“Everything we do is free of charge and our biggest expense now is buying the CDs.

“Thanks to fundraising and grants since we started 18 years ago, we’ve been able to purchase the equipment and our team of volunteers help produce the disc each week.

“Everybody works hard and gives up their own time to help run this service every week and that’s why we want more people to get it.

“Talking Newspapers across the country are seeing a decline, so we’re wanting to spread the message.”
