Ross has it covered

-

Ross is the boss at Newarthill Library.

The Supporters of Newarthill Library Committee were delighted to welcome their new full-time librarian Ross McIntosh.

Committee chair Angie Walker said:“Coming to us from Cleland Library, Ross lives in Newarthill so will undoubtedly appreciate not having to commute over the back road in winter!“

Boss replaces the lovely Amy Campbell, who has gone off to university to study teacher-training.

“Amy was a real asset to our library and much-loved by members.

“We wish her well and are sure that Ross will also be appreciated and help to breathe new life into our wee library.”

October is set to be a busy month in the library for the committee. They recently launched their first Book Club. This will take place on the first Thursday of every month from 5.45pm to 6.45pm.

The group is for adults and will focus on general fiction, with all members having an opportunity to choose a book for discussion.

During the October school holiday week, the library is hosting a Hallowe’en themed arts and crafts session for children and young people on Thursday, October 19, from 10am to 11.30am. All are welcome to come along for a morning of fun. The event is free of charge and refreshments will be provided.

The committee members are currently working with young people from Brannock High School to look at how they can encourage their peers to use the library.

In addition, the library is running a competition supported by the Art Department to design a logo for the library committee.

In November the library will continue its author visits as multi-award winning writer Cathy Cassidy comes to Newarthill.

Cathy has written many best-selling novels for children and young people and is an avid supporter of the committee’s work in saving the library from closure last year.
