Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning
Staff and pupils took part in the Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning to raise funds for the cancer battle.
A small group of pupils form the S3 Achieve group worked closely with home school partnership officer Gordon Swinton and staff within the home economics department to create a wonderful display of baked goods and cakes to help staff enjoy and celebrate the event.
Pupils also raffled cakes and raised £ 290 for the charity. The pupils are busy planning and preparing for their next charity event.
Mr Swinton said: “Getting pupils actively involved in enterprising learning events significantly improves their personal development and confidence. The pupils demonstrated a wide range of skills in planning and executing this this coffee morning and showed great teamwork.”
Coltness victorious
Coltness High School’s under-18s beat Bishiopbriggs 4-2 in a thrilling Scottish Cup match last week.
Mathew Craig scored twice with Euan Scott and Jamie Staniard bagging a goal apiece. Kai Murdoch was man of the match.
Bishopbriggs were a strong team and this was not an easy game. Coltness went up 2-0 early on but Bishopbriggs fought back to level at 2-2.
Coltness’ third goal was an amazing strike by Mathew Craig then Euan Scott scored the decisive fourth goal.
The Coltness team played well against good opposition, leaving the coaches very proud.
They now play the winner of Bannockburn v Cardinal Newman.
P7s love maths
The Coltness maths department has restarted weekly visits to local primary schools. The purpose of the visits is to promote the enjoyment of maths and to build excitement for the P7s coming to high school.
S1 student safety
The talented performers from the Landed Peer Education Service put on a wonderful show about personal safety for the S1 students last Wednesday.
The actors addressed the dangers of issues such as road traffic, smoking and fire-raising through a number of scenarios which involved the pupils themselves coming onto the stage, encouraging everyone to make the right decisions.
The Landed actors had the S1 pupils in stitches of laughter during their performance but the hardhitting messages were not lost during the question and answer sessions.
Landed have worked closely with a range of year groups within the school, encouraging positive behaviours and everyone looks forward to welcoming them into the school again soon.
A range of activities were organised by staff in the languages faculty from September 18 to 22 to encourage pupils to consider the importance of languages in the everyday and working lives of those in their community.
Throughout the week pupils tasted international cuisine in the school canteen, bought and wore multilingual love bands, took part in an S1 Poetry Slam and enjoyed world language taster lessons in Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Mandarin and Japanese.
Pupils even had the opportunity to meet representatives from the CHS Careers services, Japan Desk Scotland, China Dream Mandarin School, SCILT Institute, Global Language Services and the Alliance Française.
Many thanks to all staff, ex-pupils and visitors who contributed.
