Charlie’s ready to take on all comers

-

Charlie Flynn recorded a ninth professional win on Saturday night in front of a packed Manchester Arena – then vowed he is ready to fight anyone at anytime.

The Newarthill boxer beat Liam Richards in his first bout in six months after a brutal headbutt in his Glasgow fight with Ryan Collins.

After only managing three bouts in the past 18 months, Flynn admits to feeling frustrated but is now ready to kick on and have his best season yet.

He said:“Saturday was all about getting the ring rust away and I’m feeling good.

“Now hopefully I can get back out twice before the end of the year.

“I’ve only had three fights in the past 18 months and that’s the least amount I’ve ever had in that amount of time, stretching back to when I was an amateur.

“I’m not bothered about who I fight, where it is or when.

“I just want to go out there and do the business.

“I’m happy to focus on training camp and staying fit and let Eddie (Hearn) and the

rest of the Matchroom (promoter) guys sort everything out.

“The atmosphere in Manchester was great and if there’s a few big shows down in England then I’m more than happy to be a part of it.

“I just want to keep rolling on and make it my best season yet because it’s been frustrating.

“When you train and train for a big fight then you get injured or something happens early on in the fight which stops it then it’s hard.

“It can be hard to motivate yourself not knowing what’s coming next but I’m glad that’s behind me now.”

Flynn was fighting on the Ricky Burns versus Ant Crolla undercard and the Commonwealth Games hero admits he would love to see a rematch between the two.

The 23-year-old said:“It was a really hard, close fight but it’s always likely to go the way of the fighter in his own back yard.

“I need to watch it back but at the time I thought it was really close to call.

“Hopefully they can get a rematch back up in Scotland and I’d love to be part of that card.

“But that could be a while away and I’m just keen to get back out there soon, keep working hard in the gym and stay on top of my weight.

“That could mean that next year I’m ready to kick on and make it a great year.”
