Progress for boxing club

-

Get behind your club – that’s the message to the people of Coltness as the area’s boxing club gets off the ground.

The inaugural meeting of the boxing club was held in the Carrick Hall last week but the positions of secretary and treasurer have still to be filled.

With support for the boxing club almost universal in Coltness, community council chairman John Carr is appealing for more people to come forward and be part of the new committee.

John said:“Over 1000 people signed a petition wanting the boxing club in Coltness.

“It’s now time for everyone to get behind club trainer Kenny Davidson and the people who will be taking the club forward.

“We, as a community council, are there to support Kenny and the rest of the committee as they take this on.

“Everyone knows what the plans are and they have been brought to the attention of everyone living in Coltness.

“People have said that they want it and now is the time for people to get behind it.”

The council, together with Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire, are supporting the group after a new site was identified for the club in Innerleithen Drive.

The club would not be council run but instead will be funded and run by the group as part of the community asset transfer process.

John added:“We have a Coltness United FC which is doing great work in taking kids off the streets and getting them into sport.

“Hopefully the boxing club can do the same thing once it’s off the ground.”

The next meeting of the club takes place on Tuesday, November 7, at 7pm in the Carrick Hall, Coltness.
