Coltness High Sweet taste of success
Pupils from the school designed cakes as part of National Honey Week and they joined up with Wishaw business Plan Bee.
The cakes, inspired by the beehive within the school, were all a huge success and the pupils did fantastically.
First prize went to Mandy Tsang, second to Amanda Platt and Ashleigh Hill finished third.
Duke of Edinburgh
Fourth year pupils have finished their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Awards.
Twenty-eight pupils took part in the final expedition in Campsie Hills – the highest number the school have ever had.
The DofE scheme is a three-way partnership between the school, the council’s community learning and development department, and local community group Made4UinML2.
North Lanarkshire Council fully funds the outdoor instructors, transport and camping equipment for the expedition.
School staff support the pupils at lunchtimes and after school in arts, crafts, sports, games, music and other activities.
This enables the pupils to do their three other sections for the award – skills, physical and volunteering.
Many pupils go on to do their silver and gold awards with Made4UinML2.
The school will soon be starting a new bronze group for interested S3 pupils.
Poetry day
The winner of this year’s poetry competition to celebrate National Poetry Day was Lara, a pupil from 1S1.
The theme of this year’s competition was “Freedom” and her poem, also entitled “Freedom”, is displayed in the library.
Abby’s poem has also been sent to the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh.
Well done Lara!
