You can’t make it up
Saint Aidan’s students were made up about make-up last week.
The school has been buzzing with activity in October, with a wide range of activities going on which showcase the enthusiasm of students.
School Captain Niamh Giffen has volunteered her professional level make-up artistry skills to run a “makeup masterclass” with a group of third year students.
Kathleen Keeney, deputy headteacher, praised Niamh for her efforts and said: “We are delighted about this initiative and we are confident that it will really benefit these girls in terms of their selfconfidence, self- esteem and general attitude towards school.
“The girls came along for the first session and were in absolute awe of the wonderful Niamh Giffen.
“Niamh will work with the third year group, helping to build their skills and confidence.
“Most importantly, the girls will work together as a team and push themselves outside of their comfort zone, whilst doing something they love.
“We hope this new venture will motivate and enthuse the girls with their wider learning targets.
“It was wonderful to see them so engaged and eager to learn outwith regular school hours.”
M e nt a l H e a l t h Awareness Day and Student Ambassadors
Students have also been very engaged in raising the awareness of mental health.
A competition was held to develop a new logo to promote World Mental Health Day and the winning logo featured on a special book mark that was given to every student.
Student Mental Health ambassadors have also been appointed to continue to raise the profile of this issue throughout the year.
The awareness raising will continue when all sixth year students will attend mental health awareness workshop events at the end of October.
Mary’s Meals Support
The ongoing commitment to supporting charity across the globe continued in Saint Aidan’s with the dispatch of more backpacks to Mary’s Meals.
The items for these backpacks were donated by RE and WPS classes last term.
This fundraiser was organised by the Caritas class and these backpacks will be distributed to children in the schools in Africa.
