South Wishaw Parish Church Wednesday activities continue with prayer group and life group at 10am and 10.45am respective­ly. Midweek service at 12 noon is followed by lunch with Wednesday Welcome at 1.30pm. Sharing Circle is on Thursdays at 1.30pm. Saturday Cafeteria is at 10am to 1pm and Team D are on duty this week. Prayer breakfast is at 9.30am on Sunday, prior to the 11am service conducted by Rev Terry Moran. Now Church at 2pm is followed by lunch at 1pm. The Guild meet on Monday, November 5 at 7.30pm. Wishaw Churches Together alternativ­e Christmas shop runs daily on November 6–11, in Wishaw Old Parish Church. All welcome. Houldswort­h Bowling Club The function room is closed this Saturday, but the lounge will be open as normal. A few place remain for the Christmas show, Time of your Life. Tickets cost £12 and includes a buffet. A £6 non-refundable deposit per person must be paid at the time of booking. Wishaw Old Parish Church are hosting an event on November 12-19, under the banner of the Faith Mission organisati­on. The mission teams will visit homes to share the gospel and services are planned each night at 7.30pm with the exception of Saturday, November 18, where a rally will be held in the church. Wishaw Old Church will host the events, but the mission is supported by churches in the Wishaw area. The mission commences on Sunday, November 12 at 7.30pm when Rev Gordon Thomson will preach. Monday evening is youth night and 2nd Wishaw Junior section will sing during the service. There will be a special focus and guest preachers and refreshmen­ts will be served afterwards with a group of counsellor­s on hand. The mission leader Rev Gordon Thomson was born and brought up in Muirhouse and trained at the Faith Mission Bible College, before serving as minister at Drumchapel Baptist Church. Since 2013 he has been mission co-ordinator in the west of Scotland. Wishaw Ex-servicemen’s Club Entertainm­ent begins with cash bingo in the Tartan lounge on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The club’s special annual general meeting is on Saturday, November 4, at 1pm. Upcoming events include an entertainm­ent night with Lee Scott on November 11; Billy Connolly tribute night with Garry Moir, followed by dancing on December 16. Tickets cost £8 and are available now; entertainm­ent night with Tam Bell on December 23. Two function halls are available for special occasions such as 18th and 21st birthday parties. A hall dressing service is also available, along with balloon and cake packages, contact the club for more on Facebook. Rotary Club The guest speaker at the rotary club of Motherwell and Wishaw was Laura Preston, a Scottish Wildlife Trust ranger, based at the Falls of Clyde reserve in New Lanark. She advised members that the River Clyde flows through the gorge over a series of four waterfalls, from which the reserve takes its name. Corra Linn, the largest, features an 84 foot drop and was immortalis­ed by William Woodsworth after his visit in 1802. The reserve stretches along both sides of the gorge, from the historic village of New Lanark southwards to Bonnington Weir. The reserve contains fine examples of oak woodland and wildlife with over 100 species of birds. The Falls of Clyde visitor centre contains informatio­n about the creatures of the reserve.
