British champ is a nobody, says Scott Shotts scrapper wants to get in title picture

- Michael Temlett

Shotts boxer Scott Allan believes he would be the perfect man to lead the British Bantamweight division – because nobody has heard of the current champion.

Allan made the scathing remarks about Englishman Josh Wale ahead of his Scottish title fight with Kash Farooq on November 23.

Not only will the bout be for Allan’s current belt but the fight is also an eliminator for a crack at the British title.

Josh Wale won the title back in July but Allan insists he is a ‘nobody’ and wants to go toe-totoe with him – after he has seen off Farooq.

Farooq beat Allan in January this year in a shock non-title victory but this time around, the Shotts scrapper insists he is not taking any for granted this time and feels better than ever.

He said: “Last time out the better man won but I won’t make the same mistakes this time.

“I’ve been training harder than ever and feel unbelievably fresh.

“With so much on the line this time it means even more to me.

“The stakes are higher because if I win this I’ll be in line for a British title shot. Josh Wale is apparently the best in this division but nobody has ever heard of him.

He’s a nobody and I would love to get in the ring with him but I can’t look past this fight with Kash first.

“Titles are brilliant but for me it’s all about proving that the Scott Allan that turned up last time was not the real Scott Allan.

“I know I’m far better and to be honest, Kash knows I’m far better than that and he will be worried.

“After I’ve got Kash out the way I’ll be chasing that British title.

“I would love it to be my next fight but with politics in boxing that probably won’t happen but I want proper fights against tough talents – not just journeymen.”

Allan believes his motivation is at an all-time high following the birth of his daughter.

He believes the fight – which was re-scheduled after an initial bout on September 9 was cancelled – is the kind of scrap Scottish boxing fans should get behind.

He said: “One thing people know when me and Kash get in the ring is that we’re going to put on a show.

“It’s two young and hungry fighters in a fight that means something.

It’s all about who wants it more but unfortunately for Kash, there’s no way he wants it as much as me.

“After my daughter was born, it’s inspired me even more and everything I do I’m doing it for my family.”
