Vital service moves more

-

Macmillan Cancer Support is extending its services across North Lanarkshire.

Craig Tobin, right, project manager for Macmillan in Lanarkshire said: “This is an exciting time for us as we have two new services which go live this week in Bellshill and Hamilton and a wider launch in February 2018.”

The group has just started a new circuit class at Wishaw Library Sports Centre on Wednesday afternoons and Motherwell aquatec on Friday mornings and a gentle movement class, based on Chi Gung, at Wishaw Library on Tuesday afternoons.

This is part of the Move More campaign which aims to encourage those living with cancer be more active.

Mr Tobin said: “We are really trying to encourage our Move More campaign as studies have found that, while traditional advice says ‘Rest is Best’, doing gentle exercise can be really useful. It helps with fatigue and muscle movement but it is also good for mental health as it is sociable.

“This is the first time that Macmillan has specifically covered Lanarkshire and we’re a brand new project.

“While there have been Macmillan ser vices in Lanarkshire in the past, they have not been of this scale and investment before.”
