More than words

-

Communication-friendly Book Bug classes take place every Thursday at Wishaw library.

One mum believes every parent who has a child with speech and language problems should use the free service.

The class runs between 10.45am and 11.30am at the library within Houldsworth Health Centre and Elaine Breslin praised the sessions.

Elaine, pictured with daughter Mara, was enjoying her second week at the group when the Wishaw Press stopped by.

The Motherwell mum said: “It’s about more than words for Mara because she also has the chance to play and sing.

“Her favourite song is ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’ and she always makes sure she sings it!

“But it’s great because the more you can sing and interact the better your speech becomes.

“Mara has had trouble with her speech and language but I definitely see a change in her when she is here.

“I was worried about taking Mara to the other Book Bug classes and this is far more relaxed.

“It gives you a chance to support your kid but leave them to go around and play with the toys and interact.

“Mara loves all the props and even though we’ve only been coming here for two weeks I know we’ll certainly be coming back.”
