Tree’s up First Christmas Too commercial Great day

Christmas is now officially upon us with light switch- on ceremonies having taken place across Wishaw and the surrounding area.

But while our towns and villages have switched on their festive lights, many feel it is too early to get the tree and tinsel down from the attic.

We took to the streets of Wishaw to find out when our readers would be putting up their Christmas tree.

Deborah Boyle and two-year-old daughter Katie had already decided when their tree was going up.

Deborah, who lives in Wishaw, said: “We put ours up on December 1.

“When I was younger we used to put it up 12 days before Christmas and I hated it so I thought why not get it up early?”

David Cooper, from Overtown, insists on keeping it traditional.

“We are putting ours up 10 or 12 days before,” said David.

“Christmas is great for the kids but I think it has got a bit out of hand and is too commercial now.”

Laura Hamilton, pictured with son Aiden, also got her tree up when December started.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to it this year as its Aidan’s first Christmas.”

Gail and Gracie Allan had already set time to get start decorating their home.

Gail said: “Last Sunday we had a day at the pantomime then put the tree up.”
