Brute jailed for nasty attack on pensioner

- Ross Thomson

A thug has been locked up after brutally attacking a pensioner at a popular Wishaw restaurant.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court, Liam Quinn was convicted of assaulting the 70- year- old man at the Artisan restaurant at 249 Main Street on July 8.

During the shocking incident, 26-year-old Quinn repeatedly punched the man on the head before grabbing hold of him and pulling him to the ground which caused him to strike his head on a doorway.

Quinn then repeatedly punched and kicked him on the head and body and dragged him along the ground.

He was cleared of behaving in a threatening manner in Wishaw Main Street and Motherwell Police Office.

Quinn, whose address was given in court papers as HMP Addiewell, was jailed for 21 months.

His co-accused, Laura Paterson, was found guilty of behaving in a threatening manner in Main Street on the same date.

Paterson blocked the front door entrance and repeatedly failed to move when requested to do so.

The 35-year-old then shouted, swore and behaved in an aggressive manner.

Paterson committed the offence while she was released on bail.

Her not guilty pleas of attacking the pensioner by continually pulling and grabbing him on the body and behaving in a threatening manner at Motherwell Police Office were accepted by The Crown.

Sentence was deferred on Paterson, of Knocklea, Biggar, until December 18.

A range of reports and a restriction of liberty order assessment were ordered to be prepared for Paterson’s next court appearance.
