Slim when you’re winning

A Wishaw gran is getting ready to dazzle this Christmas after shedding more than two stones.

Fionnaidh Halloran was voted as the Thursday 5.30pm Slimming World group’s Miss Slinky 2017 by her fellow members who were wowed by her achievements.

Slimming World’s annual Miss Slinky award recognises those members who have transformed inside and out by becoming healthier and happier, slimmer and more confident. The national winner will receive a £2,000 cash prize. Fionnaidh, 52, who has dropped from a dress size 16 to a 10, has been attending Slimming World classes off and on for 18 years.

“When I went at first, I had a young family and wanted to be able to run about after them the same as everybody else,” remembers Fionnaidh, of Greenside Road, Wishaw.

“The one thing I’d say is you cannot slim for somebody else because that will never work – you have to do it for yourself.

“I was already really looking forward to this Christmas and feeling glamorous enough to wear the outfits I’ve been dreaming of. Winning the title of Miss Slinky means I have even more to celebrate.”

Nikki Musgrave, who runs the South Wishaw parish Slimming World groups on Monday at 9.30am, Thursdays 5.30pm and 7.30pm, and Friday at 9.30am and 11.30am, which Fionnaidh attends, says she’s extremely proud of Fionnaidh’s success.

She said: “Christmas is a time of year for getting dressed up and having a good time.

“However, when people are overweight they often dread it because they feel uncomfortable and out of place at parties – that’s if they don’t make an excuse to avoid socialising altogether. This year I know Fionnaidh will feel completely different from previous years.”
