Airdrie and Shotts Post Offices have been voted top in the Post Office Limited’s Constituency Challenge bill payments category.

MP for the area, Neil Gray, accepted an award on behalf of the constituency.

There were 269,000 bill payments made in 16 Airdrie and Shotts Post Office branches in the year to September 2017.

This made the district the most used rural Post Office network in the UK for payments.

Mr Gray said:“Having helped to secure a Post Office in Plains, I know how much people rely on these services.

“This award is justification that villages and rural towns need to retain vital Post Offices which not only sell stamps and give pension payments but enable bills to be paid and banking to be done without the need to travel miles.

“I will always fight to maintain Post Office services in Airdrie and Shotts.

“As this award proves this is a lifeline to many residents.”
