It shows a lack of class

-

Brendan Rodgers launched an attack on the Motherwell hierarchy after his side beat the Steelmen at Parkhead on Saturday.

The Celtic manager focused on Motherwell’s Alan Burrows in particular as he accused the Fir Park chief executive of lacking class.

There has been plenty of controversy over the past week as the two sides have collided three times, once in the Betfred Cup final and the league twice.

After his team had beaten Motherwell 5-1 on Saturday, Rodgers said:“This week there has been a debate around the honesty and professionalism of the Celtic players.

“There have been questions asked of the supporters.

“But there’s not a debate. These are players who have gone 67 games unbeaten because of their honesty and professionalism.

“They devote their lives to it – and our fans have been brilliant.

“I understand Well were hurting after the cup final and that overspilled a bit into Wednesday.

“But some of the nonsense that came out of their club this week was absolutely incredible.

“My players and the supporters have shown great humility.

“After the game on Wednesday we had the Motherwell chief executive walking around with laptop trying to demonstrate to the media that it wasn’t a penalty.

“Then later that evening he tweets about retaining class and dignity.

“But that’s not behaviour that befits that.

“There’s no problem with Stevie Robinson or Keith Lasley, they’ve done brilliantly. But for senior members of the club to do that I find it disappointing.

“I respect the emotions but we’ve done our talking on the pitch.”
