Making up is so very fun to do

- Make-up masterclass Bishop’s forum

Over the past five weeks a group of S3 girls have been attending a make-up masterclass every Wednesday after school with the S6 captain Niamh Giffen.

Niamh is a well- known makeup artist in the Wishaw area and works in a salon doing professional make up for clients at the weekends. Niamh also has her own YouTube channel which showcases her range of make-up looks, techniques and trends.

She kindly offered her professional skills to teach the girls.

She gave them the opportunity to develop their own professional make up and interpersonal skills, and hopefully to gain a Dynamic Youth Award at the end of the year.

The girls then held a make-up masterclass for all members of staff which allowed them to demonstrate the different skills that they have developed since the course started.

Louise Cairns, teacher of PE and event organiser, said: “We have been impressed by the hard work, commitment and progress that the girls have shown over the last month. We are hoping that they will be able to do the make-up for the Christmas elves for the Victoria Park party in the next couple of weeks.”

Charity entrepreneurs celebrate

S5 pupils held an assembly to mark the completion of their Religion, Belief and Values Award.

This allows them to put the central values of their faith into action by taking leadership in planning and implementing a wide range of charitable activities to help the Talbot Centre, an organisation that supports vulnerable homeless men.

The students spoke about how they had to be enterprising with £20 of start-up funding.

Each class found ways to make the money grow. In the end, they were able to purchase 80 bags bursting with toiletries and hundreds of pairs of socks.

Student Dawid Graczyk added to the warm atmosphere with some great singing and guitar playing.

Bishop Toal visited the school to participate in a forum discussion with S6 students. The students asked the bishop thoughtful, probing and mature questions ranging from his own beliefs through to questions on politics and society.

Capital visit

The social studies department organised an informative and entertaining day in Edinburgh for 38 Higher Modern Studies students. The trip was organised by Mrs Brenda Young.

The trip began with a tour of the parliament building followed by a question and answer session with local MSP Clare Adamson.

The group then looked at how legislation is drafted and passed by the parliament. Following this they delved into Edinburgh’s murky past with a visit to the spooky and mysterious realm of the Edinburgh dungeon.

Breast cancer fundraiser

The S6 charity committee have done great work in support of Breast Cancer Care.

The group have been out in the school community and have raised £ 196.88 for this amazing cause by selling pink ribbon badges, bands and collecting money in their pink buckets.

St Andrew’s Day

The school’s St Andrew’s Hospice ambassadors got to work on St Andrew’s Day and hosted a very successful coffee morning and raffle.

Their efforts, combined with the generosity of those attending raised the fantastic sum of £219.31 for the hospice. Thank you to Morrisons, Tesco, Tunnocks and Tetley for donating goodies for the fundraiser.

Pupil parent partnership

Mrs Hyslop, the home school partnership officer, organised an event for pupils and parents to bond through interactive and fun activities.

Pupils who earlier took part in summer school were asked to come along with their parents to help with their transition in moving to secondary school.

Mrs Hyslop said: “We had a variety of Christmas activities such as making soap bombs in the science department and a wooden candle holder in the tech department.”

She added: “We got a lot of positive feedback from parents.”
