New Horizons ready to start year with a bang

- Music

A Coatbridge guitarist has expressed his band’s excitement at their imminent return to the King Tuts stage.

Lewis Bryce, lead guitarist of New Horizons, says the quintet can’t wait to perform at the iconic venue’s New Year’s Resolution festival on January 13. The band have recently returned from their second UK tour which included dates in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle and Glasgow. And Lewis saysthe opportunity to play at a festival gives them the chance to “finish with a bang” before a well earned rest.

He told the Advertiser: “King Tuts is a landmark gig for us, especially as part of a festival.

“We’ve played loads of gigs in loads of places, but it is one of the best to perform at.

“We didn’t apply for a slot, they approached us, which is pretty cool.

“Ocean, the band who are headlining, are doing really well at the moment and it’ll be great to play on the same night as them.

“It gives us the opportunity to finish on a bang before we chill for a month or so.”

Reflecting on their tour, which finished last week, Lewis added: “It was absolutely brilliant.

“We were playing to around 150 every night and met new people at every date.

“Our fanbase has increased on Facebook as well so it was definitely worth it.”

He continued: “We all work full-time and are realistic about our hobby.

“We take it seriously though; that was our second UK tour and we put a lot of money into it and value our fanbase.

“However, music doesn’t take up our whole lives anymore.

“We’re all 25 or 26-years-old and know there’s a one-in-a-million chance of making it, whereas at 18 I thought my music would take over the world!”

Lewis , who hails from Shawhead, isnt’t the only member of the band from Coatbridge.

He explained: “I met our rhythm guitarist Jonathan Crombie at Coatbridge High.

“We grew up together and are close pals.

“As a band our inspirations are writers like Biffy Clyro, but we’ve got a great female singer in the shape of Emma Doherty.

“So Paramore is who I would liken us to the most.”
