Shotts cup dream over after loss

-

Shotts Bon Accord’s Junior Cup dream is over after crashing out against Forfar West End.

The 4-2 scoreline was disappointing despite the Bonny taking an early lead through Danny Burns.

Forfar equalised 15 minutes later thanks to a penalty and went 2-1 up when slack Shotts defending gave the West End forward the simplest of chances with Shotts goalkeeper Johnny Murdoch helpless.

Keiran McGuinness’men would have hoped to have had a good start to the second half.

However, McGuinness’team talk went out the window minutes later when West End went 3-1 up.

Murdoch saved Shotts from going 4-1 down on 58 minutes and Bonny got themselves back into the match minutes later.

Burns broke through the West End defence to slot home the visitors’second.

At this stage it looked like Shotts had a chance to snatch a replay and bring Forfar back to home territory. However, that dream died 10 minutes from the end when West End again waltzed through the Shotts defence with Callum Walls grabbing his second of the match for the home side.

Forfar almost grabbed a fifth late on but Murdoch’s left hand post came to the rescue.

Wishaw’s Junior Cup tie against Dundee Downfield was once again postponed with the fixture set to take place this weekend.

Central League Two matches involving Newmains and Carluke Rovers also fell victim to the weather.
