Wizard’s revenge on Rocket Ronnie

Louis Moult

-

John Higgins got revenge on rival Ronnie O’Sullivan by hammering ‘The Rocket’ in front of a hometown crowd.

Higgins had lost four times to the Rocket this season, including a woeful whitewash.

But the Wizard of Wishaw stormed into the semi- finals of the Scottish Open with a 5-0 thrashing of O’Sullivan at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena.

Higgins also lost to eventual winner Neil Robertson but was pleased with his performance especially against O’Sullivan who picked up his first whitewash against him in 23 years.

The four- time world champion said: “It was good to stop the rot, because I’d lost to him the last four times we played.

“Before that I had a decent record against him but you don’t want to keep losing to the same player so I’m over the moon. I was really nervous before the match because you’re thinking ‘ I don’t have the best recent record against Ronnie’ and he’s been cueing really well recently.”

Higgins lost 6- 3 against Robertson who went onto win the tournament with a 9-8 win against Cao Yupeng.

The 25-year-old penned a three-and-a-half year deal with Alec Neil’s Preston North End and will hook up with his new teammates at Deepdale on January 1. Moult has already played his last game for the Steelmen due to injury but will look back at his time in Lanarkshire with fond memories.

Moult said:“The biggest highlight has got to be the League Cup semi-final win over Rangers and scoring the second goal.

“I don’t know why but the last-minute goal against Hamilton with 10 men sparked scenes that I will never forget. I have had so many highs at this club.”
