Crook targets club charity tins

-

Detectives at Wishaw are appealing for information following an armed robbery in Law.

Between 12.30pm and 1pm on Saturday, December 30, a man entered the Law Bowling Club in Lawmuir Road and threatened a man and woman who were working within the club with what appeared to be a firearm. He demanded money from the two members of staff and made off with a two-figure sum of cash and five charity tins.

No- one within the club was injured but it has been very upsetting to those involved.

The suspect is described as approximately 5ft 8 to 6ft tall, with a thin to medium build. He was wearing dark grey jogging trousers, a black or grey Adidas hooded top and white trainers.

The man was also carrying a JD Sports plastic bag and a cream canvas bag.

Detective Sergeant Diane Barr, from Wishaw CID, said: “Whoever carried out this crime clearly has no regard for anyone but themselves.

“To steal charity tins is pretty despicable behaviour and I am appealing to members of the local community to consider if they noticed anything suspicious around the time of the incident.

“It may not have seemed significant at the time but in light of the robbery, the information could be relevant to our enquiries.

“Did you see anyone acting suspiciously near the bowling club? I would also urge people to get in touch if they come across any of the stolen charity tins which may have been discarded by now. If you have any information, please do contact us.”

Meanwhile, police officers are appealing for assistance from the public after an attempted robbery on a woman on Boxing Day.

At around 8.10pm a man knocked on a door at a house within Woodlands Avenue, Law, before forcing his way in. He then threatened the 76-year-old pensioner before trying to steal her jewellery.

The man then made off empty handed along a lane at Dobbies Court and out onto Station Road, before he turned left towards Buchanan Drive.

The suspect is described as being between 18 to 25 years old, 6ft tall and wearing a black hooded top with the hood up and a snood/ balaclava which covered his face. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact police on 101.
