Police in the Wishaw and Motherwell area reported a busy first weekend of the new year.

They are appealing for witnesses after an attempted break-in at a Motherwell additional support needs school.

Inquiries are continuing after a window was broken during the incident at 7.20pm on Friday at Firpark Primary School in Milton Street.

An 80-year-old man from Motherwell was charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act at 3pm on Saturday in Motherwell Road, Carfin, for allegedly failing to keep his dog under control after a 39-year-old Motherwell man was allegedly bitten by a dog. A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

A 19-year-old Wishaw man was allegedly assaulted near the Commercial Hotel in the town’s Main Street at around 2.45am on Friday. A 19-year-old man from Motherwell was arrested and a report has gone to the procurator fiscal.

Two men, aged 39 and 41 were arrested on Friday at 2.20pm in connection with the alleged theft of a mountain bike from Campbell Street, Wishaw.

Also on Friday at 6pm, at Kylemore Cres, Motherwell, a 21-year-old woman was arrested for alleged breach of bail conditions and held in police custody for appearance at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

A 23-year-old Harthill woman was charged at 11.30am on Saturday with alleged possession of cannabis in the town’s Paxstone Crescent.

On Saturday at 12.50pm at Tesco in Belhaven Rd, Wishaw, a 38-year-old Wishaw woman was charged with alleged shopliftin­g.
