- Ross Thomson

Police are hunting a man who broke into the Asda store in Newmains in an early morning raid.

At around 4.45am on December 26, a man, described as being heavily built and wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and black trainers forced his way into the store with intent to steal.

The man was then seen making his way into the supermarket’s office before leaving.

No cash was taken and there was no damage to the supermarket shelves although there was substantial damage to a door which had been forced open.

Police are studying CCTV footage in a bid to catch the culprit.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Entry was forced through a side door before a male made his way upstairs into the office and then left again.

“He did not go into the main store and no cash was taken from the office during the raid.

“However, the door was forced open and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen something to come forward and help us with our enquiries.”
