Wishaw Churches Together are holding a Week of Prayer for Christian unity in South Wishaw Church from Monday, January 15 until As Blue Monday approaches and the festive spirit wanes, local charities and health organisations are urging people in the area to make time to talk a priority in this new year.

Based on the success of a pop-up Chat Café during Suicide Prevention week in September 2017, the Motherwell Health and Social Care Consortium are supporting a weekly Conversation Café from January to March in Motherwell.

Windmills Café with a Conscience in Brandon Parade East are serving up the opportunity to have a chat over a cuppa with Alan, an experienced peer support worker.

Anyone who is worried about something, going through a tough time or just looking to have a nice chat over a tea or coffee is invited to come along.

It’s true that talking may seem a simplistic solution to the problems many of us face, however, the benefits are known to be far reaching helping people to sort through feelings, put things into perspective and release tension.

A representative of Lanarkshire Links, one of the groups organising the initiative, said:“This service complements existing support services in the area and is intended to offer space to those who are feeling lonely or may be struggling with emotional difficulty and feel things are not sufficiently serious that they need to visit their GP.

“The café will give people the opportunity to talk through things and will redirect and signpost people to existing services they may be unaware of or be unsure how to access.”

Windmills Café is committed to providing a safe, friendly and affordable place in the town centre for people to get together and feel accepted.
