RACING ROOKIE MAKING AN IMPACT GOING PELL FOR LEATHER Johnny off to a flier in his maiden Minimoto season

A 10-year-old Minimoto prospect is racing ahead of his competitors after an impressive first season on the circuit.

Despite only starting racing in the UK Minimoto Championship in September last year, Wishaw lad Johnny Pell got off to a flier and quickly progressed from novice grade into the Junior A category.

At the end of his first full season, over the course of eight championship races, he narrowly missed out on a podium finish after ending fourth overall.

At the UK Minimoto Championship end of season trophy presentation night on Saturday, he was delighted to be crowned the most improved rider of the year.

Dad Kenneth said: “We’re really proud of him. To get most improved driver, we couldn’t ask for anything more in his first season.

“He has driven motocross bikes before but this is a totally different style and track.

“He had a bad crash on his motocross bike when he was seven, which gave him a bit of a fright and he took a back seat from it for a while.

“He’s really enjoying this now though and is looking forward to the new season starting.”

As well as the trophy, Johnny was gifted a new set of leathers by Stuart Anderson, manager of Standsure technology.

Kenneth said: “Johnny was very much over the moon on Saturday and he wishes to thank Stuart for being so generous giving him this gift.

“The leathers are worth £250, which is a substantial amount.

“Johnny said this support has boosted his confidence and made him even more determined to improve further in the season this year and, hopefully, earn himself a podium finish.”
