Man is battered in gang attack
Detectives have launched a probe after a man was left with “life-changing injuries” after being battered by a gang of men in Wishaw on Friday.
At around 11.55pm, police were called to a report of a 47-year-old man having been seriously injured on North Dryburgh Road, near to Loudon Street in Coltness.
Emergency ser vices attended and he was taken to University Hospital Wishaw.
Medical staff describe his injuries as life-changing.
Residents whose homes overlook the scene of the attack remained tight-lipped early this week, with no-one willing to describe events that unfolded on their doorstep.
The only evidence of the serious assault in the quiet residential corner on Monday was the remains of a police tape used to cordon off the area.
Police believe there may have been a number of men involved in the attack on the 47-year-old, who all fled the scene.
Near to where the man was left, an empty silver BMW was found crashed into a wall on Loudon Street and another vehicle, a white Mercedes A
Class, which had been set on fire, was found on Wishaw Low Road a mile away from where the injured man was discovered.
The vehicle was removed over the weekend from the affluent residential street of fivebedroom up-market homes, which is just a stone’s throw from St Mary’s Primary School in Cleland.
Officers believe that both vehicles and the injured man are linked.
Officers are carrying out door to door enquiries and examining CCTV footage and are now appealing to the public for information.
Detective Inspector Kenny Dalrymple, from Wishaw Police Office, is hoping the public can assist his officers with their enquiries.
DI Dalrymple said: “The attack on this man was callous and brutal and has left him with serious injuries. It is vital that we find those responsible.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident and seen either of the cars, or a group of people running from the area.
“Anyone with any information, no matter how insignificant it may have seemed at the time, should come forward and contact us.”
