Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church There will be two services of worship at the church on Sunday, at 11am and 6.30pm respective­ly. Each service will include the celebratio­n of communion. All will be made very welcome. The morning service will include British Sign Language (BSL) signing and electronic note taking to assist those who are deaf or hard of hearing. For those unable to attend the service in person, there will be an opportunit­y to join in online via the live link on the church’s website www.dalzielsta­ndrews.org.uk or catch up later on YouTube. The men’s club will welcome Matt Muircroft as the guest speaker on Monday with the Sisterhood on Wednesday sharing their favourite hymns and readings. The Guild get together, for all local guilds, will also be held this afternoon at 2pm to 4pm with refreshmen­ts also being served. The two prayer groups will meet this Monday evening at 7.30pm and Wednesday afternoon at 1pm. The Kirk Session next meet on Thursday, February 8, at 7.30pm with the Congregati­onal Board meeting at the same time the following Thursday evening. The minister will hold an initial meeting for anyone interested in becoming a member of the church on Sunday, February 11, at 8pm, in the halls. All are most welcome to come along, without commitment, to discuss what is involved. This year’s Cupid’s Lunch will take place following morning worship on Sunday, February 18, with all proceeds going towards congregati­onal funds. Beltane Bowling Club’s next monthly dance will be held in the club on Saturday, February 3. Motherwell Photograph­ic Society At this week’s meeting the members viewed the Glasgow District Photograph­ic Union digital portfolio. In previous years this had consisted of large portfolios of prints passed from club to club for viewing. Following suggestion­s from several clubs the decision was made that, this year, it would change to a digital format. Making it much easier for it to be accessed, and viewed, by clubs. The presentati­on consisted of three sections: Colour, Monochrome and Nature. Motherwell had two entries accepted - Paul Millar’s “Shore and the Guardian” in the Colour section and Linda Greenhill’s “Hey You” in the Monochrome section. The winning entries sparked much debate over their relative merit and scores. This led to a lively discussion between the members and a final consensus that they did not necessaril­y agree with the results but the portfolio as a whole was excellent. This week’s meeting on Thursday, February 1, will be the second print competitio­n. The judge will be Stephen Phillips MBE, of Milngavie and Bearsden Camera Club. The next beginners’ nights are on February 9 and February 23, with the class subjects to be confirmed. The Society meets on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm in Holytown Community Centre on Stevenston Street, Holytown. Anyone with an interest in photograph­y, no matter what level, is welcome to attend. Lanarkshir­e Family History Society’s next meeting takes place on Thursday, February 8, when the guest speaker will be Ian McKellar. Ian’s topic will be Reconstruc­ting a Scottish Lowland Estate in the 19th Century. Using maps, census returns, newspaper and journal articles, gravestone­s, photograph­s and other sources.
