Ryan is keen to show what he’s capable of

- Andrew Bargh

Coatbridge singing sensation Ryan Lawrie has announced a headline gig in Glasgow.

The former X-Factor contestant will perform alongside a live band for the very first time during his planned show at the city’s Classic Grand on May 11. Singer-songwriter Ryan says he can’t wait to get on stage and revealed there is a special reason behind the concert. He told the Advertiser: “This is a chance for me to show everyone what I’ve been working on over the past wee while. “I’ve been travelling up-and-down to London every week to write songs with very experienced and talented writers, so it’ll be good to showcase what I’ve been busy with.

“I’m hoping to have an acoustic EP released before the gig too.

“I can’t wait to get stuck into rehearsals with the band which will probably begin within the next couple of weeks.”

One of the established names Ryan has been writing with is very well connected within the music industry.

He explained: “I’ve been working with Ben Collier who’s a great songwriter.

“He’s worked with artists like Olly Murs and Little Mix, so I’m fortunate to be able to spend time with him writing and learning.

“The songs we’ve written will be played at the gig in May, but not all of them are for me.

“I’ve been writing with a view to selling my music to other, established artists, as this is my career now and I need to make money.

“A few have expressed interest in things I’ve written but its all at a very early stage jat the moment.”

And the excitement doesn’t begin and end there for Ryan, who is back down in London as usual this week.

He continued: “I’m trying to widen my horizons with writing, so I’m meeting a guy from Nashville this week for a few sessions.

“It’s brilliant to take tips from people who are so experienced and that can only benefit me.

“I can’t wait to put some of this into practice at the showcase gig, and then hopefully things will kick on from there.

“I’ve got some money in my savings from X-Factor and the gigs I’ve done off the back of that.

“But this is it now, so hopefully what I’ve been working on can impress the right people and who knows who might see me performing?”

Tickets to Ryan’s gig at the Classic Grand in Glasgow are on sale at £10.
