With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it is estimated that loved up Brits will spend nearly £1 billion on their loved ones.

But is it another excuse for retailers to make money or are people genuinely excited about splashing the cash?

We took to the streets of Wishaw to find out if our readers were lucky in love and what has been the most romantic thing their partner has ever done for them.

Georgina Devaney was top of the list with one surprise.

She said: “My man Colin and I have been together for 10 years.

“For one Valentine’s Day he got a star named after me. “He is quite romantic. I’m very lucky.” Brian Murphy insisted he always tried to make an effort around this time of year.

“I always take my wife out for dinner,” said Brian.

“We have been married since 1990 but the romance and love is still there.”

Coltness couple Robert and Dorothy McClintock will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary later this year. But what is the secret of their success? Robert said: “I just make sure she is right. “We never really argue. We don’t need to argue.”

Dorothy added: “I think I got a card from him the year before we got married.

“I’m not sure if I’ve had one since though.”
