Motherwell Photographic Society The club held its print competition last Thursday, which was judged by Professor Stephen Phillips MBE, of the Milngavie and Bearsden Camera Club. Stephen is an honorary professor in the division of infection and immunity at Glasgow University and is also a visiting professor at the University of Taiwan. His comments, interspersed with some interesting anecdotes, were very comprehensive and constructive. One of the main points he made was that many of the prints would have benefited from being shown in a larger size. The winners were: Beginners’ section “Elsa” by Bill Lamarra. Advanced portrait: “World Champ – aged eight” by William Graham. Advanced Landscape and General: “Cygnet Landing” by Margaret Dewar. The members gave Stephen a warm round of applause for his thoughtful and constructive input. At this week’s meeting on Thursday, the Motherwell club will be playing host to East Kilbride Camera Club for the image league battle. The league battles are competitions where clubs, broken into leagues of three or four clubs, compete against each other. The winners of each league will also compete for the grand final to be held in April. The evening is also the hand-in night for the third projected image competition. The next beginners’ nights will be on February 9 and 23, with the class subjects to be confirmed. The society meets on Thursday evenings, at 7.30pm, in Holytown Community Centre in Stevenston Street, Holytown. Anyone with an interest in photography, no matter what their level, is welcome to attend their meetings.
