Great haul for Nicol

-

Shotts-based company Stuart Nicol Transport has picked up the Scottish European Haulier of the Year title at the annual Transport News Scottish Rewards ceremony.

The company, a member of Palletways network, has grown significantly since it was founded by Stuart Nicol 21 years ago.

Originally using hire vans to courier packages in and out of Glasgow Airport, it now boasts a fleet of more than 50 tractor units and 80 trailers.

Managing director Mr Nicol said:“To be recognised as Scotland’s European Haulier of the Year is a huge boost to our hard-working team.

“We truly believe that our greatest strength as a company is our drivers and we’d like to thank them for all of their hard work.”

“This award sends out a strong signal to our competitors about our strength and capabilities in the industry and we look forward to winning new business because of it.”

The company designates 10 per cent of its fleet for continental working, with trucks travelling to Ireland and Rotterdam in northern Holland daily.

A significant part of orders received by the company also come from southern Spain, where trailers filled with Scottish food and drink are delivered to ex-patriots living in the region.

The Transport News Scottish Rewards Breakfast has remained popular since its inception 24 years ago, attracting over 600 haulage and logistics industry guests to Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel.
