A Mother­well su­per­fan has been voted the best of the year by fans across the coun­try.

Tom Feely, joint-chair of the Well So­ci­ety, came out on top of the Scot­tish Foot­ball Sup­port­ers As­so­ci­a­tion (SFSA) 2017 fan awards in the cat­e­gory of‘Fan of the Year’.

He has fol­lowed the Steel­men for 55 years and was pre­sented with his award at half-time dur­ing the game against Partick This­tle.

Speak­ing af­ter the game, Tom said: “I’m de­lighted per­son­ally to re­ceive this award. How­ever, I think it’s more an award for ev­ery­one in­volved in the Well So­ci­ety for their tremen­dous sup­port and hard work.

“We now have close to 2400 mem­bers who have sup­ported us through our first year in fan own­er­ship and this award is fan­tas­tic recog­ni­tion of the pos­i­tive im­pact the Well So­ci­ety have made.”

Tom was recog­nised for the count­less hours of work he puts in on a vol­un­tary ba­sis as joint chair of the Well So­ci­ety.

He also re­cently at­tracted press at­ten­tion af­ter cut­ting short his fam­ily hol­i­day in Aus­tralia to make it home in time to see his beloved Steel­men in the Bet­fred Cup Fi­nal.

The SFSA rep­re­sent the views of over 70,000 Scot­tish foot­ball fans and their an­nual awards cover a num­ber of cat­e­gories in Scot­tish Foot­ball, with Kieran Tier­ney and Sir Alex Fer­gu­son amongst the other win­ners this year.

Mother­well Foot­ball Club were also hon­oured, win­ning the Best Club Mar­ket­ing Award for 2017.

Dur­ing the last year, the club has seen a sig­nif­i­cant in­crease in at­ten­dances, sea­son ticket sales and Well So­ci­ety mem­ber­ships.

Paul Good­win, chief ex­ec­u­tive of the SFSA, said:“We were de­lighted to of­fer Tom this award as many Well fans spoke of his huge com­mit­ment to the club and to the de­vel­op­ment of com­mu­nity own­er­ship with the Well So­ci­ety.

“Tom and the other valu­able nom­i­na­tions we re­ceived show how loyal most fans are to their clubs and how im­por­tant they are to the game.”
