Young swimmers get their rewards

Motherwell and Wishaw Swim Team recently held their annual presentati­on night in the United Services Club in Motherwell.

The following awards were presented in recognitio­n of achievemen­ts at the Annual Club Championsh­ips.

Swimmers in each category won overall in a points system, gained by swimming in each stroke – front, back, butterfly, breast and individual medley.

Overall winners: 9 and under girls, Morgan Dunn; 9 and under boys: Ruben Pearson; 10/ 11 girls, Amy Fotheringh­am; 10/11 boys, Ruaridh Welsh; 12/13 girls, Holly Welsh; 12/13 boys, Luke Doyle; 13/ 14 girls, Kate Hughes; 13/14 boys, Andrew Smythe; 16 and over girls, Carla Brawley; 16 and over boys, Craig McRoberts.

Special awards were also presented to the following: Junior Endeavour Award, Mia Perriman and Caelan Tonner; Senior Endeavour Award: Milly Donnnachie, Scott and Robbie MacFarlane (twins); Performanc­e of the Gala Award: Amy Fotheringh­am for breaking the club record for 50m Butterfly; Special Achievemen­t Award, Logan Smith for winning two golds and two silver medals at the Special Olympics held in Sheffield at the end of last year.

The club have already started competing this year, attending West District of Scotland Championsh­ips, and other minor competitio­ns with great results.

Some swimmers have now reached qualifying times to compete at the Scottish National Swimming Championsh­ips at Tollcross in March.

The club are also attending a week long training camp being held in St Andrews later this year.
