Bin fires led to damage
Firefighters were called to a late night blaze in Shotts after wheelie bins were set alight.
The blaze in Kilfinan Road in Dykehead just after 1.30am on Tuesday, February 27, saw bins destroyed and damage caused to a number of fences around people’s homes.
One resident, who asked not to be named, said: “There’s quite a lot of damage. I can’t believe it.
“If someone has done this deliberately then I’ll be really angry.
“I can’t believe how much damage it has caused. It’s very annoying.
“There’s been a few bins going missing up here but nothing like this.”
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed the alarm was raised to the emergency services at 1.40am last Tuesday morning.
The spokesman added: “Police Scotland and Scottish Fire & Rescue were alerted to a fire in a wheelie bin in Kilfinan Road, Shotts.
“The fire service went to put out the fire but could not confirm whether or not this was a case of wilful fire raising.
“There have been no reports of any antisocial behaviour in this street over the past few months.”
