MSP appalled by shock stats
Politicians from all sides of the political spectrum expressed their shock at the alarming figures.
Wishaw SNP MSP Clare Adamson said:“I would first like to thank our dedicated NHS staff for the outstanding service they provide.
“It is absolutely awful that anybody could ever contemplate attacking NHS staff as they attempt to undertake their duties.”
Wishaw MP Marion Fellows slammed the figures saying:“It is shocking to hear of anyone being physically and verbally attacked in their workplace, but especially NHS staff who are working hard to help people. It is disappointing to see incident rates so much higher in Wishaw compared to other nearby hospitals. There must be a clear message that abusing staff is completely unacceptable.”
Meanwhile Graham Simpson, from the Scottish Conservatives, added:“These figures are alarming. Frontline health workers should never be subject to attacks of any nature especially from the patients they are treating.
“Any attack is one too many, and these levels should concern us all. The NHS staff have a difficult enough job without having to worry that they may be the next victim of an unprovoked attack whilst doing their job. These people need to know that society will not tolerate this sort of behaviour and anyone caught will have the book thrown at them.”
