Care worker ‘nutters’ claim

-

A Motherwell care home assistant will face a fitness to practice panel hearing on Monday after allegations that she shouted at residents and referred to them as “nutters.”

It is alleged that Angela McGrory, a worker at Parksprings Care Home, referred to residents, in their presence, as “nutters”during a conversation with colleagues on February 28 last year.

It’s also alleged that she shouted at residents:“Shut up or you are going to be kicked out,”and repeatedly told a male resident, known as AA, to“just wait,”when he stated he needed to go to the toilet.

It is also alleged that she pushed AA into a chair when he attempted to stand up.

Angela McGrory was employed by Countrywide Care Homes Limited at Parksprings Care Home in Motherwell’s Frood Street.

It is a 74-bedded care home which provides specialist nursing, residential and dementia care. Short and long-term respite stays are also catered for at Parksprings to allow home carers to take a break.

McGrory’s Scottish Social Services Council registration was suspended on February 3 this year until August 8, 2018.

At the hearing in Dundee, which is expected to run from Monday to Wednesday, the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) will decide whether the allegations are proved and, if so, whether she is fit to practice, if her fitness to practice is impaired and if she should be removed from the register.

The SSSC is the regulator for the social service workforce in Scotland.

Its work means the people of Scotland can count on social services being provided by a trusted, skilled and confident workforce.

The body protects the public by registering social service workers, setting standards for their practice, conduct, training and education and by supporting their professional development. Where people fall below the standards of practice and conduct, it can investigate and take action. The panel’s decision will be posted on the SSSC website within 14 days of the last day of the hearing.
