Health Fayre

Recently Dalziel High School celebrated its 24th annual Health Fayre under the theme of ‘Find the Balance’.

At Dalziel we take health promotion very seriously. We aim to create opportunities for every pupil of Dalziel to become the healthiest and most balanced versions of themselves and the Health Fayre is part of this process.

As our programme stated; whichever way it is dressed up and from whichever angle you choose to look at it, health and wellbeing should be a top priority for us all and we should aim to find the right life balance to ensure we are as healthy as possible.

This may be about finding the balance between work, rest and play; finding time to rest and relax; exercising and having a balanced diet. We focused on having a positive mindset and the tools to deal with stress and anxiety.

This year every class in S1-3 and all P7 pupils from our associated primaries visited the Health Fayre. Each group visited five main stalls and experienced; first aid training, Apps on mindfulness in our ‘calm area’, solved brain puzzles and received information on healthy eating.

As always pupils competed in our sports events in house groups. At lunch time every day this week sporting events such as Beach Volleyball, Futsal and our very own ‘Bring it on’ Dance Competition took place.

We held an Anthony Nolan registration day and as always the opportunity was in place to donate blood. Once again our primary 7 pupils took part in a competition to design our programme front cover and they also attended our annual Sports Hall event.

Many thanks go to all staff, exhibitors and pupils involved in this year’s Health Fayre. We hope our Health Fayre encouraged our pupils and staff to look at their life balance.

Scottish Space School

One of our S5 pupils, Max Logan, has won a place on this year’s Scottish Space School which takes place in June at Strathclyde University. Max will be working on activities with astronauts and engineers from NASA.

This is a fantastic opportunity and it is great that one of our pupils has the chance to take part.

Rotary Engineering Competition

Dalziel entered three teams in the Basic Level (S1/S2) of the Rotary Engineering Competition last week at Kilsyth Academy.

One of the teams finished first designing and building a rocket launcher (well plastic golf ball launcher actually) from basic materials.

Well done to Innes McClair, Evan Pattison, Rachel Reilly and Charlotte Simpson.

We also entered a team in the Intermediate level (S3/S4) competition and they finished close behind the winners in 2nd place. All teams were fantastic and had a great time.

Thanks to Mr Barrie, technical department, for training them up on the tools that they were to use in the competition.
