Motherwell Photographic Society Bob Collins from Queens Park Camera Club was the guest speaker at last week’s meeting of the club. The title of the presentation was “Look at what I’ve found” and consisted of prints from his vast portfolio, taken in a variety locations and countries. Bob stressed the importance of planning the shot, his mantra being “the right time, the right place, the right position”. However, he also said that spontaneous shots can be good and that we should “always be looking about us for the unexpected”. One piece of advice was to build a series of folders containing photos that could be used as backgrounds eg, buildings, clouds, or the night sky, etc. Subjects could then be imported into these backgrounds to create a totally new image. Bob’s outlook is that photography should be fun and that, in the first instance, we should be doing it for our own enjoyment. He was given a well-deserved vote of thanks for a very interesting and informative presentation. The annual “match an image” competition with Strathaven Camera Club will be held on April 1.
