United thumped by ’Cairn

-

Gartcairn .............. 9 Newmains Utd ...... 0 Paul Davies insists thumpings at Newmains won’t be tolerated anymore.

The new co-boss marked his dugout debut by seeing two players sent packing and his side lose nine goals.

Davies’co-manager Craig Gupwell and goalie Mark Bisset both saw red on a day to forget.

Davies said:“That was a baptism of fire to junior football. Most managers would probably say we’ll dust ourselves down and go again next week. But Newmains’results have been like this for a season now.”

Davies had seen signs of improvement in Newmains’3-1 win over East Premier League side Fauldhouse United. But the wheels came off against Gartcairn after centre-half Davie Ross was crocked.

Davies added:“After the game against Fauldhouse we thought we’d found a shape that suited the squad.

“For the first 40 minutes we contained Gartcairn but then we lost Davie. After that Craig fouled a player a clear five yards outside the box but the referee awarded a penalty and sent Craig off.

“To make matters worse we then made a mistake and found ourselves 2-0 down at half-time.When Mark was sent off centre-back Mikey Barton went in goal. To be honest we struggled to cope with Gartcairn’s pressure after that and without a recognised goalie it was difficult.”
