Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church morning worship will be held as usual on Sunday at 11am. The service is available online live via the church website (dalzielsta­ndrews.org.uk) and for catch-up later on YouTube. British Sign Language signing and electronic note taking are also included to assist those who are deaf or hard of hearing. An evening service for adults with support needs is being organised by the Aspire group on the first Friday of each month in Strathaven Evangelica­l Church. The service will start at 7pm and conclude at 8.30pm and will also include refreshmen­ts. Further details are available from Alex Baird on 01698 262915. Befriend Motherwell are organising an open day on Wednesday, April 18, from 10am until 2pm. There will be refreshmen­ts available at the event and other support organisati­ons will be providing stalls of goods for sale. The open day will be showcasing all the work of the organisati­on and it is open to all and local residents are also invited to drop in and see what’s on offer. The group are also planning to start a walk each Monday afternoon around the Dalzell Estate, beginning at 1pm and lasting for no more than an hour. All senior members of the community are invited to join in this fun trek which will be due to gather at the gates of Our Lady’s High School. Praise in the Park Hamilton Presbytery invites all its congregati­ons to take part in the ‘Praise in the Park’ event taking place at the Scottish Rowing Sports Centre of Strathclyd­e Park, Motherwell on Saturday, April 14, from 1pm until 5pm. The event will offer music and praise, displays and informatio­n, Messy Church taster sessions and a reflective space for those seeking something quieter in nature. All will be made welcome to join in for as long as is suitable. Dementia Resource Centre The newly refurbishe­d Centre in Dalziel Street, Motherwell, is now open to members of the public. The centre is planning to hold two open days which are open to all and these will be held from 11am until 3pm on Saturday, April 21, and from 3pm to 7pm, on Monday, April 23. All will be made most welcome. Motherwell Photograph­ic Society The club held its third, and final, print competitio­n last week. The judge was Elspeth Fear of Strathaven Camera Club, a photograph­er with a lot of experience which she used to good effect in her judging. She gave an excellent commentary on each photograph, suggesting changes, such as, cropping the image to improve the print. The winner of the Beginners’ section was ‘Seedling’ by Dominic Smith. Dominic had a very successful evening as he also took second and third places with his prints ‘Ouch’ and ‘Red’ respective­ly. In the Advanced Landscape and General section, first place was awarded to ‘Silver reflection’, by William Graham. Second place went to ‘The matador’, by Craig Ferguson with the third place awarded to ‘Powder flick’, also by William Graham. The members gave Elspeth a warm round of applause for her thoughtful and constructi­ve input. For this week’s meeting on Thursday, the Society will be away to Strathaven Camera Club for their annual Match an Image competitio­n. This always proves to be a fun evening for all concerned and usually provides some interestin­g and entertaini­ng images on the night. The Society meets on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm in Holytown Community Centre, Stevenston Street, Holytown. Anyone with an interest in photograph­y, no matter what their level, is welcome to attend.
