Christian Aid week The local churches are busily setting out plans for this year’s Christian Aid week, which takes place around the town on May 13-18. The popular Christian Aid cafe will once again be held in St John’s church from Monday to Saturday, excluding Wednesday that week, and are looking for donations of home baking from kind-hearted members of the community. Volunteers are also required for the door-to-door collection­s with the many new estates having sprung up in the town. If you can spare a few hours to help out, please contact your local church who will put your name on their list. Short mat bowls Carluke Bowling Club runs bowls sessions every Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon in the town’s leisure centre, from 1pm to 4pm. This year the club have announced that they have changed their rules and will now accept new members to join this club. For further enquiries contact the secretary, Pat Barrie on 01555 759394. Anniversar­y concert Tickets are still available for the Wishaw and District Brigade Band’s golden jubilee concert which is being held in Motherwell Civic Theatre on Saturday, May 12. Tickets are £5 but these are going fast; contact the band on 0755785629­6 to check availabili­ty. Motherwell Diocesan Choir The choir will present Choral Classics for a Spring Evening in Motherwell Cathedral on May 16 at 7.30pm. A suggested donation of £5 will taken on entry at this event to raise funds for local charities, St Andrew’s Hospice and Mary’s Meals. United Service There will be a united service in St John’s Church on Sunday, May 20. After the service there will be a bus to the Heart and Soul Service celebratio­ns in Princes Street Edinburgh. Trekkers St John’s Trekkers will have another outing on Saturday, May 12, leaving as usual from St John’s Church at 9am for the journey to Lady Mary’s Walk at Laggan Hall which is approximat­ely six miles. Jars of Grace The 2017/18 total has reached £1,410.95 which was sent last week to UNICEF from Carluke. If however, you have still have your jar to hand in please do so to one of the churches as it’s not too late. Anniversar­y visit On Sunday St John’s Church, which is celebratin­g its 175th anniversar­y welcomed Rev Mike Frew and his wife to lead the worship. Mike was minister of the church from 1991 to 2005 and is now retired. Coffee morning Youth charity Street Level will be hosting a coffee morning at its premises in Stewart Street from 11am to 1pm this Saturday. Door collection The Carluke Gala Committee were delighted with the support shown on this year’s door to door collection and how the town’s people responded once again to the collection which at the weekend reached £3126 with several cans yet to be counted. With only four weeks to the Carluke’s biggest attraction every year the court start preparing this year’s rehearsals this week and look out for the gala dresses soon to
